As of 2007-10-09, the database contains 445 records. Not all of these are unique sites, since programs that operate more than one site are also listed with a main program entry. The database includes British Columbia and Alberta, since programs from these two provinces are active participants in ROEE, but it does not yet include other provinces, nor Mexico.
The number of actual residential outdoor environmental education programs in the United States is unknown, but we are aware of about 350. We are not aware of any major programs not listed in the database, however, there are no doubt may small programs operated just for one school or one district of which we are not aware. Many of these programs choose not to be listed because they serve only their own students and use only existing staff.
